Fireweed tea (Ivan tea) is a caffeine-free herbal drink made from dried — and often fermented — leaves of the fireweed plant (also known as rosebay willowherb).
What it is and where it comes from
- Raw material: The tea is made from fireweed leaves harvested in summer.
- Ivan tea: In Russia this drink has a long tradition and is known as Ivan tea (or Koporye tea).
- Caffeine-free: Unlike regular black or green tea from the tea bush, fireweed tea contains no caffeine.
- Taste: The flavour is often described as mild, with floral and fruity notes and a light fermented touch.
